You may have read an article or two or maybe even a whole book about freelancing. But there’s still questions you’d like answered. Like, what are magazines paying these days? How do I figure out the right editor to pitch? How do I approach corporate clients? This overview to freelancing answers all these questions, plus provides the opportunity to ask your own.
In addition to the 20+ years of experience that your instructor Suzanne (Sue) Bowness brings as your instructor/mentor, this course also puts you in community with classmates who are also figuring out freelancing along with you, so you have a circle of new writers to help you boldly make your move with into this new world.

- Meet on Zoom for weekly trainings and exercises (sessions recorded)
- Make friends with fellow writers via a Slack community
- Followup support: the course is six weeks, but includes three weeks of follow-up support via email
- Respectful and supportive environment: your course instructor is an experienced classroom manager who will not accept intolerance of any kind or plagiarism

CLASS 1. Introduction to freelancing / burning questions
CLASS 2. How to read like a writer + overview of the content/copywriting/journalism landscape
CLASS 3. How to pitch a magazine or corporate client: pitch structure and etiquette
CLASS 4. Business questions 101 – how to set up your freelance business and systems + plan your writing niche
CLASS 5. Mapping your story: outline and feature writing techniques + writing exercises
CLASS 6. Self editing and planning your way to your first assignment, plus navigating contracts and payment negotiation
(3-week email follow-up with course instructor)
