Enrol in a writing course with the Feisty Freelancer
You may have read an article or two or maybe even a whole book about freelancing. But there’s still questions you’d like answered. Like, what are magazines paying these days? How do I figure out who’s the right editor to pitch? How do I start approaching corporate clients for work? Our overview to freelancing answers all these questions, plus provides you the opportunity to ask your own.
In addition to the 20+ years of experience provided by your instructor/mentor, this course also puts you in community with classmates who are also figuring out this world along with you, so you have a circle of new writers to boldly make your move with into this new world.
Here’s how your course breaks down:
- Meet on Zoom for weekly trainings and exercises (recorded so you’re still on track if you need to miss)
- Make friends with fellow writers via a Slack community
- Dive into Freelance 101: learn about business setup, maintenance (invoicing!), developing a niche, building and retaining a client base, and other basics
- Create your dream assignment: most writers who come to a course have that one idea that’s been rolling around in your mind for a while – you’ll have the opportunity to pitch it for feedback, then get to work on developing it
- Make your dream assignment real: we’ll work on the basics of writing an assignment, whether it is a magazine feature, a researched blog, an essay or something else is your choice. Topics will include developing the idea, structuring the story, and writing exercises designed to break down each step
- Pitch the dream assignment: once you’ve figured out the idea, we’ll review a structure for how to pitch it and get it out in the world.
- Seek followup support: the course is eight weeks, but the story development and pitching process may be longer, so the course includes four weeks of followup for support on everything from second drafts to pitching progress.
